Thakali Chicken Recipe

Tamil cooking of Thakali Chicken is a modified western and south Indian motif. It is based on butter and tomatoes. You can increase or decrease the chili and pepper combination according to your the spicy tendencies. It is not difficult so try it out and enjoy.


  • Chicken boneless 1 lb
  • Butter ½ cup
  • Onion 1 cup
  • Garlic 1 tbsp
  • Tomato 1 cup
  • Peas ½ cup
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Green chili 1


  1. Boil and cut the chicken into very small pieces. Some like it even shredded
  2. Cut onions, green chili and tomato into small pieces
  3. Now mince the garlic well
  4. In a frying pan heat the butter and add onions and tomato while it is slowly melting
  5. Now add the peas, garlic and red chili to it and stir fry for about 3 minutes
  6. Take the chicken pieces and add them to the pan.
  7. Stir fry and do not over cook. The idea is to have a kind of patchadi consistency and not a paste. It should be wet but not thin like a curry but at the same time it should be wet enough or moist
  8. you can serve it with rice, bread, chapatti and even for idli and dosa
