Tamil recipes Murugal Dosai is a regular breakfast item in south tamil nadu and other southern states and even in north india now. Idli is another but dosai is special for most tamil samayal on a daily basis. It requires time and patience. There is also masala dosai which is in other recipes later on and sada medu dosai.I above this video on Dosai by vahchef on you tube:


  • Idli rice 4 cups
  • Urad Dal 1 ½ cup
  • Fenugreek seed 1 tsp
  • Salt 2 tsp


  1. Wash and rinse idli rice
  2. Soak them together and fenugreek for 4-6 hours
  3. In a blender or wet grinder grind them all together
  4. Mix them all well in a large bowl adding salt
  5. The dough should ferment that night for best results. It should be well fermented next morning
  6. Heat medium heat a 9-10” wide frying pan. Sprinkle oil and spread it with a cloth or tissue paper
  7. Pour one big serving spoonful on to the pan and spread it thin around the pan. Pour little bit of oil on the sides. Turn heat to high. Turn and do the same when brown
  8. Serve it hot with sambar and coconut chutney
