Green Mutton Stew Recipe

Tamil Recipes Green Mutton Stew. This is based mostly on green chilis and coriander. The shade will be green, pretty much similar to korma except the flavor is changed. This recipe has red green chili on the contrary green chili only. It has less traditional curry unusual taste and is good with rice, idli, dosa, paratas and chappatis. Cocunut provides the stew flavor. Some people avoid cocunut for wellbeing motives. Add the coconut at the finish for part of the stew if you desire, for those who can and will consume coconut curry. When you add coconut the color will turn to lighter green.


  • Mutton 2 lbs
  • Coriander powder 3 tbsp
  • Green Chili 3
  • Ginger/Garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Onions ½ cup
  • Oil 2 Tbsp
  • Salt 1 Tbsp or to taste
  • Tomato ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder 2 tbsp
  • Fennel powder 1 tbsp


  1. Here is Green Mutton Stew Recipe. Drain mutton after washing it in water, make small pieces. Add chili, turmeric powder, ginger/garlic paste and salt. Soak for about an hour
  2. In a frying pan heat oil well and add fennel seeds or powder. Add the two green chilies and 1 onion sliced and stir fry them well
  3. Make a mixture in a blender or grinder of rest of onions & tomatoes & chilies. Now you can add the coriander powder
  4. Use a pressure cooker to prepare, add the soaked mutton with four cups of water and the fried ingredients and the blended mixture
  5. Steam for 15 minutes. Turn the heat off after the first whistle
  6. Pour it on to a serving bowl, you can add a small bunch of cilantro to garnish and serve it hot for rice, idli or chappatis
