Curry with Raw Papaya


  • Fresh double cream
  • Raw Papaya (cubed) – 1 cup
  • Onion (sliced) – 1
  • Coconut (grated) – 1/2 cup
  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • Salt – to taste
  • Green Chilly – 2 or 3 (cut into 2)
  • Salt – to taste
  • Curry Leaves – few
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Ginger (Julienne) – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp


  1. You have to start with the preparing of coconut milk. First grate the coconut and add warm water, then extract the thick coconut milk. Do not throw away the extract of grated coconut.
  2. Heat up a wok (kadai), add oil, and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds and wait till it start tempering.
  3. Now add the green chilly, onion, ginger, and curry leaves, Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Now add papaya and again sauté the mix for 5 minutes.
  5. Add 1.5 cups of water in the mixture, salt, and turmeric powder. Cook the mix, till papaya gets soft.
  6. Now, take out serving spoon full of this cooked papaya mix, now grind this cooked papaya with grounded coconut and make a fine paste.
  7. Now add the grounded mix to the cooked papaya.
  8. Reduce the flame; add coconut milk and beaten cream to the gravy. Now switch off, do not boil the mix anymore.


Serve hot with chapatti, Barotta or rice.
